Globally, as of 2024, diabetes affects an estimated 588 million adults. Of these, nearly 43% remain undiagnosed. Meanwhile, in India, approximately one in four adults with diabetes remains undiagnosed. This delay in diagnosis may increase the risk of complications.
While maintaining a healthy weight is important for preventing diabetes, the question of whether undiagnosed diabetes can cause weight gain is often raised. But undiagnosed diabetes does not directly lead to weight gain, even though excess weight itself increases diabetes risk.
