Our Roots
Born in a small town in Ratnagiri, Dr. V.B. Gandhi’s bright and inquisitive spirit took him across the globe to Columbia University, where he pursued his post-graduation. There, he crossed paths with leaders like Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Lala Lajpat Rai, figures who deeply shaped his sense of justice, nationalism, and compassion for society.
His experiences, from witnessing the devastating Spanish flu to the 1944 Bombay dock explosion, sparked a deep desire to build a more resilient and equitable healthcare system in India. Guided by integrity, responsibility, and service, he joined hands with pharmaceutical company USV & P with the vision of making high-quality, affordable medicines accessible to every Indian.

USV & P was incorporated in India as a subsidiary of an affiliate of Revlon.
1962
The first US standards manufacturing plant opens in Mumbai.
1963
We enter the vitamins and diabetes market with the launch of Aquasol A & MVI, Vi-Syneral syrup and drops, and a time-release anti-diabetes product (DBI-TD).
1980
USV launches Glynase in the India market.
1985
We launch our antibiotic medicine, Doxy 1.
1986
USV becomes an independent entity, establishing itself as an Indian company.
1989
The manufacturing of Glipizide API marked our entry into the API market.
1989
We enter cardiology, with the launch of Ecosprin.
1990
USV marks a pivotal year by expanding its footprint beyond India, entering international markets for the first time.
1992
USV launches Glycomet, which went on to become the No. 1 diabetes brand in the India market.
1993
We established our biologics research lab, driving innovation in biosimilars.
2004
Glycomet GP launches in the market.
2006
Triple A Cal is launched in partnership with Fujix, Japan.
2007
We strategically entered the cosmeceutical business through a partnership with Sebapharma, launching baby and personal care products.
2008
We launched Jalra in the Indian market, as the first in-licensing deal in the country for DPP-4 inhibitors.
2015
In-licensing of Sulisent from J&J reinforces our diabetes leadership.
2017
Our manufacturing footprint extends to Bengaluru, with the strategic acquisition of a manufacturing facility for speciality chemicals.
2018
We acquire the German company, ‘Juta Pharma’, creating a base in the European market.
2019
We acquire the trademark for ‘Jalra’, strengthening our stance as leaders in the Oral Anti-Diabetic (OAD) market.
2019
We launch our first biosimilar Peg Filgrastim, entering the international biosimilar market.
2020
We acquire an API plant at Ambernath, enhancing our existing API and intermediate capacity.
2021
Launch of our state-of-the-art, high-volume manufacturing at Vadodara.
2023
We enter the insulin market and become the first company to launch Insulin Aspart biosimilars in India.
2024
We expand our manufacturing footprint with a new unit in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh.
