Enterokinase |
| |
Enterokinase (EK) is produced using only the catalytic domain from bovine source by a method based on recombinant DNA technology. The cloning, fermentation and downstream purification process is unique and a patent has been filed for the same.
Recombinant EK (rEK) is derived from E.coli and purified as an ~ 26kD protein containing 235 amino acids. EK is a hetero-dimeric serine protease secreted from the duodenal brush border membrane and cleaves a highly specific pentapeptide sequence, (Asp)4-Lys. The product is well characterized by SDS-PAGE (Coomassie blue), N-terminal sequencing and its specific activity. This has efficiently been used at our R&D facility as well as for many of our products of interest at the cGMP scale-up facility.
