| We are a leading health
care company with the following areas of focus: Branded Generics,
Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and Bio-similars. Sixty-six
percent of our business is contributed by the India operations and
the rest by export of APIs and Branded Generics.
India: By Rx (prescription), we rank No. 1 in
Diabetes and Cardiovascular disease segments.
We have an active in-licensing program to enhance our product portfolio.
The strategy is to introduce innovative specialized products while
retaining a focus on brand building.
APIs: We have established our presence in the
international market as the largest generic manufacturer of Metformin
worldwide. Currently we have a portfolio of 39 APIs with a focus
on regulated markets. Our plants have been inspected and approved
by global agencies like US FDA and TGA, Australia. We add value
by supporting our customers in their effort at being “early
to market” by offering products with superior features, backed
by excellent regulatory support during the development and commercial
phases.
R&D: In the area of biotechnology research,
we offer rDNA proteins and peptides backed by validated bio-assays,
clinical trials and intellectual property rights. The first product
of this effort is Eptifibatide, a cyclical Heptapeptide which is
indicated for the treatment of Acute Coronary Syndrome and in Percutaneous
Coronary Intervention. The Finished Dosage Form has been launched
in the Indian market as CoroMax. We look for alliances in areas
of mutual interest benefiting from developments in our laboratories,
which are currently manned by 221 scientists. 9% of sales revenue
each year is invested in research and we currently hold 28 patents
and have 50 submissions to our credit. Our drug delivery laboratory
works on value added dosages. Recently we out-licensed 1000 mg Slow
Release Metformin to Green Cross Pharmaceutical Corporation, Korea
and negotiations for similar arrangements in other countries are
in process. A major expansion of our R&D facilities involving
a new building adjacent to the existing corporate headquarters,
has been completed.
Niche Generics: We offer finished products with
marketing authorization for the EU and US markets. Our efforts in
the US
are commercialized through Indicus Pharma LLC.
We completed the financial year 2007-08, registering sales
of Rs.7319 million (USD 181 million). We have a 2759 member work
force who
